Susan Hardwick became the CEO of American Water Works in 2022. Previously, she worked at Vectren Corporation as VP & Controller, Senior Vice President of Finance, and Executive Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. She joined American Water as EVP & CFO in 2019. She started her career as an assistant controller at Cinergy in 1992. Ms. Hardwick announced her retirement from the CEO position in May 2025.
